From phase III trial analysis to 10 year evaluation of outcomes and cost: assessing transplantation risk and benefits

Objectives: To translate short-term phase III trial results into robust long-term health economic analyses

Research

  • A systematic literature review was conducted to provide inputs for an economic model with a focus on:
    • Quality of life
    • Health utilities
    • Cost of illness (direct costs)
    • Health economic analyses
    • Adverse events
    • Resource utilization (including hospitalizations)

Phase III Trail Analysis - Research

  • Data for the following key model parameters were evaluated and extracted:
    • Transition probabilities
    • Utilities
    • Cost data

Analyze

  • A descriptive analysis of a phase III trial data was performed with respect to hospitalization rates, length of stay, and causes
  • A Markov cost-utility model framework was developed with short-term data inputs from a clinical trial and long-term data inputs from literature

Phase III Trail Analysis - Analyze

  • Analyses for the US healthcare setting (including sensitivity analyses) were performed over a 10 year time horizon

Communicate

  • Provided model with comprehensive documentation for global internal dissemination
  • Offered support for country specific model adaptations and analyses
  • Prepared abstracts, conference presentations, and manuscripts
  • Presentations accepted at two major transplantation congresses
  • Publication in leading clinical journal
