Objectives: To systematically identify and evaluate clinical evidence concerning first-line therapy in three tumor indications
Research
- A comprehensive systematic literature review was conducted to identify available randomized controlled trials in first-line treatment for advanced or metastatic stages of three tumor indications:
- Breast cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Renal cell cancer
- Elaborate search strategies were developed tailored to the eleven databases used
- To supplement the results, further data extraction was performed using the reference lists of meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and of the retrieved clinical studies
Analyze
- A thorough systematic review was performed
- The study selection was strictly guided by predefined eligibility criteria, with each decision well-documented
- Each selected study publication was reviewed and data of relevance was extracted into comprehensive evidence tables
Communicate
- A report was created summarizing the assessment of each trial
- A patient flow chart was prepared according to the CONSORT statement
- Results were disseminated to support:
- Physician education
- Meta-analyses
- Dossier development
